【Shenzhen】Notebook Repaired at Huaqiangbei【Same-Day Service】

Previously, my personal laptop stopped working, so I had it repaired at Huaqiangbei’s electronics district—and I’d like to share this repair experience.

※ Located in Futian District, Shenzhen, Huaqiangbei is one of the world’s largest electronics districts, with a scale dozens of times that of Tokyo’s Akihabara.

Heading to Huaqiangbei Electronics District

So, I brought my non-functional laptop and headed to Huaqiangbei’s electronics district.

In this image, the “Huaqiang Group” sign displayed on the upper part of the building is a major Shenzhen-based enterprise founded in 1979.

After checking reviews on Baidu, I found that a shop inside the “SEG Electronics Market” building had good ratings, so I decided to go there.

Entering the Building to Find the Shop

I joined colleagues from our company—who handle sales support, marketing, and back-office operations—and set out to find the well-reviewed shop mentioned in the reviews.

Having the PC Checked

I immediately handed over my laptop and asked the shop staff to check its condition.

As I was explaining the issue to them, the staff replied, “No need—I already know the cause.” Their confident response, a subtle nod to their expertise as professionals, made me truly feel their sense of professionalism.

They immediately started disassembling the PC and checked it carefully. The result showed that the motherboard was faulty.

Getting the Motherboard Repaired

When it came to repairing the motherboard, the shop didn’t have the necessary parts or tools on hand. So the staff said, “Come with me to a shop I know in Huaqiangbei,” and I followed their lead.

In Huaqiangbei, most manufacturers’ parts are kept in stock year-round, and repair and replacement shops are everywhere. As such, depending on how busy the shops are and the nature of the fault, devices can often be fixed the same day—usually within 2 to 3 hours.

※ In fact, my laptop was repaired and restored on the very day I brought it in.

Repairs for PCs, smartphones, and similar devices here seem to follow a “success-only payment” model—if a shop fails to fix or restore the device, no fee is charged.

By contrast, in Japan, some shops claim to offer “success-only payment” but actually charge extra for diagnostic fees. What’s more, repair times there typically take at least 3 days to a week. That’s why being able to get same-day repairs and restorations at Huaqiangbei shops feels especially convenient and appreciated.

※ When I mentioned that even diagnostics alone cost money in Japan, another Chinese customer waiting nearby asked in confusion, “Why would you pay if they can’t even fix it?”

The Repair Cost in Question

The cost to repair my laptop’s motherboard this time was 650 yuan (approximately 13,000 Japanese yen).

I’m not sure if this Huaqiangbei repair cost is higher or lower than the typical rates at Japanese shops. But considering the quality of “same-day restoration service,” I think it’s quite a good deal.

Summary

That concludes my report on getting my laptop repaired at Huaqiangbei.

I was anxious when my laptop broke down, but it turned out to be a day where I truly felt the craftsmanship and hospitality of the shop staff at Huaqiangbei.
