From November 26 to 29, 2024, I attended the 2024 DMP Greater Bay Area Industrial Expo at the Shenzhen International Convention & Exhibition Center in Bao’an District, Shenzhen.

Here’s a glimpse of what the event was like.

About the DMP Greater Bay Area Industrial Expo

The DMP Greater Bay Area Industrial Expo is one of the largest industrial exhibitions in Asia, held in Shenzhen, China.

The expo brings together a wide range of products and technologies that support modern manufacturing—from machine tools and precision components to new materials, robotics, and smart solutions like AI and IoT.

It’s not just a showcase for Chinese companies; top manufacturers from around the world gather here, making it a vibrant platform for suppliers, buyers, and engineers to connect and exchange ideas.

Origin of the Name

The DMP Greater Bay Area Industrial Expo originally referred to exhibitions held mainly in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, such as the “Dongguan Machine Tool Exhibition” or the “Dongguan Mould & Metalworking Exhibition.”

Over the years, this expo became an important platform supporting the local manufacturing industry, and the abbreviation “DMP” became widely used.

As the expo grew in scale and influence, it expanded to cover the entire Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, evolving into a comprehensive industrial exhibition. The official name is now the “DMP Greater Bay Area Industrial Expo.”

* It’s worth noting that “DMP” is a historic abbreviation and not a direct shortening of the current official name.

The Event Atmosphere

We arrived at the expo grounds, and the space is incredibly vast.

We wandered around the expo, stopping to check out the industrial product booths along the way.

The booth of Ningbo Haiying Plastic Machinery Co., Ltd. had a long line of visitors—it was really busy.

Inside the spacious expo hall, a wide variety of industrial products used in manufacturing were on display.

The booth sign reads “Shibaura Machinery Co., Ltd.”—it seems that Japanese companies are exhibiting here as well.

We continued exploring the industrial products showcased at the various booths.

Summary

The DMP Greater Bay Area Industrial Expo was not just about traditional machine tools—it also showcased robotics, AI, IoT, and other smart solutions, offering a firsthand experience of next-generation manufacturing where traditional know-how meets digital technology.

Visiting the expo also made me realize that China, especially the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, is still the “world’s factory,” but today it has evolved into an “innovation hub,” where ideas and technology converge, making a global impact far beyond just manufacturing and factories.
